Biography
Rather than write a biography just for her website – and then have it fall out of date as she forgets to revise it – Jana thought she would try something different. So, here are some interesting facts about Jana (mostly taken from other bios she has written). Every now and again, she will add to what is here and you’ll get new tidbits about who she is and what she’s been up to.
Jana’s background ...
- She’s lived in six cities on three continents (Windsor, Ottawa, Vancouver, Toronto, Barraba -- Australia, and Kobe -- Japan).
- Technically, she grew up just outside a small town called Essex -- but most people don’t know where that is, so she says she’s originally from Windsor.
- For readers from the U.K. -- it is not that Essex.
- She has a Bachelor of International Business (from Carleton) and an M.B.A. (from Simon Fraser). She’s found both a great help in her writing. Honestly.
- In the past she has worked for both the federal and provincial governments -- now she works for an international advisory services firm.
Fun things you might not know...
- When thinking of new projects, Jana’s attitude tends to be “Why not?” It’s a great motivator -- and probably explains why she is always busy.
- She volunteered to run craft services for a short film because she wanted to see how a film set really worked. She loved it because she had the chance to chat with everyone on set -- after all, everyone has to eat! (The film, “Charlie” will be showing on BravoFact in spring 2007 -- if you look close, you’ll see Jana’s name in the credits).
- She recently received her green belt in karate, and is now working toward her blue.
And the official bits...
- Jana’s short stories appear in the anthologies Summoned to Destiny, Women of War, Children of Magic and Fantasy Gone Wrong.
- She conspired to co-edit, with Julie E. Czerneda, the anthology Under Cover of Darkness -- now available from DAW Books.
